William Thomas Grundy | William Thomas GrundyGRUNDY, WILLIAM THOMAS (1852-1938), who was born in Birmingham and educated at Saltley College, took up teaching and rose to be headmaster of St Philip's School, Birmingham. After two years in Australia he came to New Zealand in 1880, and spent nine years as headmaster of Masterton school. In 1889 he was appointed head of the Clyde Quay school, which position he held until he retired in 1917. Grundy served for eight years as secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute and was responsible for introducing the teachers' appeal bill.
