William Mumford Burton | William Mumford BurtonBURTON, WILLIAM MUMFORD (1830-93) was an early settler of Taranaki, farming at Grey block. An educated man and a good public speaker, he sat in the Provincial Council of Taranaki for a number of years as member for Grey and Bell (1865-69), and for New Plymouth (1873-74). He resigned to proceed to England as emigration agent for the province. In this work he was most successful, bringing to Taranaki many useful settlers, including a large number of men from Lincolnshire. Burton died on 4 May 1893. Taranaki P.C. Proc.
