Sydney Johnston

JOHNSTON, SYDNEY (1841-1917) was a son of John Johnston (q.v.), and was born in Wellington. Educated at the Jesuit College at Stonyhurst, Lancashire, he returned to New Zealand in 1860 and married Sophy, daughter of Colonel Lambert. In 1887 he succeeded to his father's property at Oruawharo, Hawke's Bay.

Johnston represented Waipukurau in the Hawke's Bay Provincial Council (1863-67 and 1871-75). He died on 28 Jun 1917.
