CANTRELL, RICHARD SEAWARD (1825-72) was born in England and arrived in New Zealand in 1858. He first contested a parliamentary seat in 1866, when he was defeated by Arthur Burns for Caversham. In 1871 he was elected to represent that electorate in both Parliament and Provincial Council. A year later ill-health compelled him to resign from both bodies, and he died on 11 Aug 1872.
