Raymond Francis McIntyre

McINTYRE, RAYMOND FRANCIS (1879-1933) was the son of George McIntyre (Christchurch) and was educated at the Warwick House school. He studied art at the Canterbury College School of Art, gained the Canterbury Art Society's bronze medal for painting from life, and became a successful portrait painter. In 1909 he went to England, where he exhibited at the Goupil Gallery, the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy, and held two one-man shows in London. Some of his work was reproduced in the Studio and in Colour. As art critic for the Architectural Review, his work showed much independence and soundness. One of McIntyre's pictures was acquired for the National Gallery in Wellington. McIntyre died on 24 Sep 1933.
