Peter Barclay | Peter BarclayBARCLAY, PETER, of Aberdeen, was selected by the colonial committee of the Free Church of Scotland to inaugurate the Presbyterian Church in Hawke's Bay. He arrived in 1859 by the White Swan, opened a church in 1861, and four years later was moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. Following the death of his wife, he resigned in 1866 and returned to Scotland. Barclay published a book, The Word and Work of Christ in New Zealand, and in 1872 Notes on New Zealand for the Use of Emigrants. Dickson.
