John McKellar

JOHN McKELLAR (d. 1883) was a well known racing owner and a patron of coursing, and introduced fallow deer into the Tapanui district. He had a store and auctioneering business in Tapanui and was the first mayor of the borough (1876). Two years later he bought the Brooksdale stallion from his father-in-law, W. Pinkerton (q.v.).
