Jeremiah Connolly

CONNOLLY, JEREMIAH (1875-1935) was born in Geraldine and educated at the Hilton school. At the age of 18 he took charge of his father's farm. In 1902 he purchased the Raukapuka estate, which he sold in 1919, and purchased Langley estate, Rakaia. He was a member of the national efficiency board in the war of 1914-18, and of patriotic societies. After contesting Ellesmere (1925) and Mid-Canterbury (1928) he was elected to Parliament as an Independent Liberal in 1931, defeating D. Jones. Connolly died on 2 Oct 1935.
