James Preece | James PreecePREECE, JAMES (1801-70), arrived at Bay of Islands in 1829 to join the Church Missionary Society. In 1834 he helped to open the new station at Puriri, Thames. The site being found to be unhealthy, it was moved a few years later, when Preece was stationed at Kauaeranga (1836). In 1838 he moved again to Herekawa, Thames, where he remained until 1847, when he was sent to open the station at Ahikereru, in Urewera. He retired in 1856 and died on 25 Dec 1870.
