James Bickerton Fisher | James Bickerton FisherFISHER, JAMES BICKERTON (1843-1910) was born at Diss, Norfolk, the son of the Rev Thomas R. Fisher, and came to Wellington in the Myrtle (1857). He completed his education at Christ's College, Christchurch (1859-60); was articled to W. P. Cowlishaw (1863) and called to the bar (1868). He commenced to practise in Westport (1870) where he was later crown prosecutor. He represented Westport in the Nelson Provincial Council (1873-74) and in the House of Representatives (1879-81). He then retired from politics and returned to Christchurch to continue the practice of his profession as a partner in Garrick and Cowlishaw. Fisher married a daughter of Andrew Brown (Victoria).
