McILHONE, HUGH, was elected in 1868 as member for Northern Division in the Auckland Provincial Council. In the following year he retired and was defeated by Farnall in the parliamentary elections for the same electorate. He was manager of St Mary's orphanage and of the state forests, resigning his position in 1886. McIlhone married a daughter of John McMullen (1806-88), of County Antrim, Ireland, who came to New Zealand in 1863.
