Harry Allwright | Harry AllwrightALLWRIGHT, HARRY (1837-92) came to New Zealand in the Cressy (1850), worked at Lyttelton for a few years for his father (a painter and glazier), on whose death he took charge of the business. A member of the Lyttelton municipal council (1868), he was on many occasions on the borough council and was mayor 1877. In 1879 he was elected M.H.R. for Lyttelton, which he represented to 1887, defeating Murray-Aynsley and E. Richardson. He was prominent in all sports bodies, president of the yacht club and commodore of the regatta. He was a member of the charitable aid board and school committee. Allwright died on 18 Jul 1892.
