George Rutherford | George RutherfordRUTHERFORD, GEORGE (1816-85) was the son of a tenant farmer at Jedburgh, Roxburghshire. He left in 1840 with his wife for New South Wales, where he became a farm manager. In 1846, with the Hon John Crozier, he took up a run on the Edward river; in 1850 he bought Kulmine, on the Murray, and in 1856 he established a stock agency in Adelaide. He brought stock to New Zealand in 1858 and bought 30,000 acres of freehold at Leslie Hills. In 1865-67 George Rutherford represented Amuri in the Nelson Provincial Council. He died on 13 Feb 1885.
