George Gwavas Carlyon

CARLYON, GEORGE GWAVAS (1824-75) was a son of Major-General Edward Carlyon, and himself served for some years in the Imperial army. He was in the Crimea with the 1st Foot regiment and afterwards came to New Zealand. He spent a year or two at the Hutt and in 1859 bought portion of Gwavas station, Hawke's Bay. He represented Waipukurau in the Provincial Council (1862), and died on 17 Oct 1875.

A brother, EDWARD AUGUSTUS CARLYON (1823-74), M.A., was a barrister at law. He represented Te Aute in the Hawke's Bay Provincial Council (1867-71), and died on 4 Dec 1874.
