Francis Augustus Hare | Francis Augustus HareHARE, FRANCIS AUGUSTUS (1845-1912) was born in Germany and educated at St Columba's College, Dublin, and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he graduated (B.A., 1868; M.A., 1873). He was ordained in Ely Cathedral and proceeded to Perth, Western Australia, as headmaster of the collegiate school. In 1872 he came to New Zealand; in 1873 was private secretary to Sir James Fergusson, and on the conclusion of that appointment was temporarily engaged in the Riccarton parish. In 1877 he was appointed divinity and classics assistant at Christ's College, of which he became headmaster in 1889. He resigned in 1893, but remained on the staff until his death (on 26 Jul 1912).
