Ewen Alexander Campbell | Ewen Alexander CampbellCAMPBELL, EWEN ALEXANDER (1843-1934) was born at Wanganui, the son of Captain Moses Campbell (q.v.). He was educated privately in Wanganui and as a young man served in the Wanganui Cavalry in the Maori war. He farmed successfully for many years at Brunswick, and took his part in local government as a member and chairman of the Waitotara county council and of the Wanganui harbour board, the chamber of commerce and the Farmers' Union. He was one of the founders and for 30 years chairman of directors of the Wanganui Meat Freezing Co. until its merger with the New Zealand Refrigerating Co. (1927). He was a director also of the New Zealand Farmers' Institute and of the Mauriceville Lime Co. Campbell was a keen racing owner and a successful breeder.
