Edward Wingfield Humphreys

HUMPHREYS, EDWARD WINGFIELD (1841-92) was the second son of Erskine Humphreys, barrister, Garthmyl, Wales. He came to Otago in 1864 and took up a property at Strath-Taieri. About 1888 he left this station and settled in Christchurch. In 1889 he was elected to Parliament as a supporter of the Atkinson Government for Christchurch North, which he represented till the end of the following year, when he was defeated. In 1891 he was elected to the Christchurch City Council but had to resign on account of ill-health, and died on 28 Apr 1892.

Humphreys married Alice, second daughter of the Hon J. Hawdon (q.v.).
