Donald Forrester Brown | Donald Forrester BrownBROWN, DONALD FORRESTER, was a son of R. Brown, draper, of Oamaru. He served in the war 1914-18 with the Otago Infantry and repeatedly distinguished himself in the operations in France. On several occasions he attacked machine gun posts which were holding up the advance and put the guns out of action, doing much to raise the spirits of his companions by his "utter contempt for danger and coolness under fire." Sergeant Brown was killed in action on 1 Oct 1916 and was awarded the V.C. posthumously for conspicuous bravery and determination on 15 Sep.
